Metallica Dream

In 2011 Metallica played a series of gigs at The Fillmore in celebration of their 30th anniversary. I’m mentioning this as it factors slightly into the dream I’m about to write about.

So I was watching Jason Newstead giving this speech to a crowd. I can’t remember what he was saying. I was watching this and it was in a theatre / club area. It seemed like it was for an anniversary celebration of Metallica. At first I thought I was watching this happen away from the event due to the cinematic nature of the speech and the angles of which I was able to see Jason Newstead. Then I realised I was there.

I was filling in for Jason Newstead on guitar as he wasn’t going to be there, or something. Despite him playing bass I didn’t consider this to be an odd thing. Rob Trujilo was also there and then I was filling in for Kirk Hammett who was not there.

So I went over to the prep area and I speak with Lars Ulrich for a bit. Maybe also James Hetfiled; It wasn’t clear. It was just a really friendly, easygoing conversation about stuff.

I went looking for Kirk at some point so I went to the kitchen area and he was there. I think. I went back to the prep area and asked Kirk (he was definitely at the prep area) about if he plays the solos as they were recorded as I don’t know how to play Metallica’s solos. He said something along the lines of “I just feel it and let it happen, man.”

I started kind of practising to warm up and then we had to go to the playing area where there was this kind of rectangular pillar in the middle that had speakers around it. James ran down, as did Rob and Lars. Then I ran down and started playing. Then I woke up.

Whilst I do read about them and occasionally watch them perform, I don’t like Metallica. I also am terrible at playing solos. My guitar playing isn’t very technical and is much more about sound than anything else. It was an odd dream.
