Five-Hundred Word Challenge 228: Looking for Something

There was a cool wind blowing hard across the desert landscape.

Staring outward with intent whilst the wind caressed their face, a lone person was staring out across the vast expanse, looking for something that they could not quite put their finger on, for they knew not what they needed to locate, but they knew that they would recognise it once it was caught in their sight.

It had been a long journey to reach where they were. They did not know why they had left their home. They only knew that they had to, almost as if compelled by their very being to leave and make it this far and to wherever their next destination happened to lie.

There were times when they wondered as to where their life was being taken, but they never thought to question what it was that they were doing, despite not really being sure.

Sands were being picked up and trying to scratch against their skin, but they were well-protected from any form of abrasion, as well as the sun, which was attempting and failing to beat down mercilessly upon the person’s being.

They didn’t seem to be able to discern anything in particular and, after standing around without much motion for a while, decided that it was best to continue moving on and searching for remaining stationary had not proven fruitful in their endeavor and did not look likely to suddenly provide the results that they were searching for; thus it was important that they began moving again, lest they remain stuck to a single point in the vast and empty landscape which they found themselves inhabiting in that given moment of time.

Trudging their way along, they found that, whilst almost imposing and most definitely epic in size, the way forward was far more straightforward than what they had perceived, although they weren’t sure if they had actually perceived anything about  the difficulty of making their way through the desert that surrounded them.

It was hard to deny that the sand was annoying at times, but as they mostly had hard surface to walk along, they found the path both easy, open and inviting.

It was easy enough to get moving quickly without having to stop, or slow down, or expend far more energy than what one would deem necessary.

The longer that they walked, the more that they realised that whatever it was that they were looking for would not be found in the desert around them. It was something that they had to look for far beyond the reaches of the arid surrounds. It was probably going to be a long journey for them before they could truly say that they had found what it was that they were seeking, but they did not truly know for certain if this was indeed the case.

All that they knew in that given moment was that they were looking for something and in the arid landscape was not where it was.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 09:21:00

I’ve been wanting to write more fiction for a while, so I think I’ll aim to do that for a little while, if I can.

Written at home.

About stupidityhole

I'm some guy that does stuff. The standards. Creating amazing effigies, scaling mountains using my feet only and replacing the very fabric of reality. Serious time! I enjoy writing. I make music in some of my spare time. Currently working somewhat full time and studying as well. Also working on self-improvement. Hoping to one day fill the internet with enough insane ramblings to impress a cannibal rat ship. I have a page called MS Paint Masterpieces that you may be interested in checking out.
