Five-Hundred Word Challenge 115: On Why I’m More Openly Trying to Sell my Photographs

So a while ago I mentioned that I was putting together a portfolio to start trying to sell some of my photos as prints.

However, it was just mentioned at the time as it was something that I was doing and thought I would mention it.

Well, now I’ve decided to include links to where my photos (and “art”) are being sold because I need to find a way to source additional income.

I could work two jobs, but currently I’m trying to keep pressure down to as low as I possibly can for various reasons.

It’s taken me a long time to overcome my being uncomfortable with marketing my product to this extent as I don’t feel I have much of a right to push anything I’m selling onto other people. I also don’t feel that I’m a good photographer and have a really long way to go before I could be classified as anything resembling good.

With that being said, I’m in a position where any additional income is certainly going to help.

I like the job that I have and I’m really happy with the fact treat they’ll allow me to work as little as I do. I’m in a good environment surrounded by people who I get along with and that makes me very happy.

There’s still a need for extra money though as I’ve debts to pay off and living costs.

So, I’ve decided to include links to where my stuff can be purchased in a more open area, rather than hidden away on my “about” page.

Now, I’m not trying to get people to feel sorry for me in any way. The fact is, I know that I’ve put myself in my situation and ultimately it’s for me to deal with (it’s not too bad anyway, but things are a bit more of a struggle). Hence why I’m not running a donation thing.

Once I’m out of debt, I’d also like to be able to see if I can maintain something resembling a stable income from what I’m selling as that would mean I need to worry less about finances in general.

So… yeah. This is kind of a plug. At the end of the day, if people don’t buy anything, I’m not going to be angry or bitter because that’s their choice.

If you decide you like anything that I’ve got and want to buy it, that’s awesome. If it’s not available and you want it, let me know and I’ll make it available.

If you don’t want anything but decide to share what I’ve got for for purchase, then that is also awesome.

If you don’t want anything but enjoy my stuff or are just passing through, that’s also awesome.

That’s all I have to say at this stage. I don’t have more as I don’t like promoting myself and am pretty inexperienced with the process.

Also, yes; The Ugliest Shirt Ever is meant to be absurd.

Well, that’s it for me.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:00:83

So an interesting thing with this one.

Part of it was written at work and at home.

I didn’t have enough time to finish it at work because I was at work and work needed to be done.

That covered 8:16:32.
I finished it off just now and that was 01:44:51.

It was odd as I had to get back into the mindset of this one as I wasn’t in the same place by the time I resumed, which kind of works against why I do these, but at the same time doesn’t. I think.

Anyway…

So the reason why I wrote this is that I felt the need to explain why I now have links to where some of my photos can be bought openly displayed instead of just in the “about” page.

So yeah.

Hopefully it doesn’t read like a sympathy grab.

Written at work and from my (new) desk at home.
