Five-Hundred Word Challenge 48: Here we sit

Here we sit, on the volcanic layers forming a cake of crust and stone, burning our desires into shapes that we cannot choose to muster if we were so forever able to try, as we are but mere mortals, shaking within ourselves and shouting at the heavens for cursing us to be within feeble bodies that we may shape, but never change into something far greater than the sums of ourselves.

Here we sit, on the volcanic layers warming our hearts, upon oceans of desires that have been cast aside as we have allowed ourselves to break into tiny smithereens of former adolescents, forever allowing ourselves the chance to give up, far more than we ever should have.

Here we sit, unknowing where we are going far more than we should ever let on, clawing at the sun until the night sky approaches and gives us the stars we so desperately crave to see, awaiting the eruption that shall heat our bodies far beyond what we could ever expect them to reach.

Here we sit, wondering as to why we are, never wondering what we should do next, burrowing into the very land that we would like to see with open eyes on a day that would allow the clouds to form and reform endlessly upon the canvass of the sky, creating images of old that are always new to us, for we are but children that will always see wonder and innocence around us if we so choose to see those things.

Here we sit, falling into a mind full of possibilities that we cannot see, as we can only follow so many, unless we allow our thoughts the opportunity to wander through the winds that carry them along, erratically but always to a destination that only our thoughts can know.

Here we sit, feeling through a cold that cannot be explained, ringing comfort to us as we keep our heads glued to the sand of the mountain that has been ground down slowly in an inevitable process that only nature can fully understand, for whilst we have informed notions, we have chosen to examine instead of become the mountain and the wind that erodes it.

Here we sit, ready to dance until we can dance no more as we choose to forego the ability and move towards a new horizon, looking at what is around us and instead of being up on a high, lofty peak that has us seeing everything from above, choosing to go down and be among all that we see, giving us a sense of relation and understanding that had been left to all that had chosen to be with everything else instead of choosing to ascend ahead of everything and then stand on the top whilst cursing the fates that we had brought upon ourselves, not accepting responsibility for our own actions that put us there.

Here we sit, feeling our way to unknown things that will still be better for our lives.

The time it took to write five-hundred words: 10:26:60

A bit faster than the last one.
I’m not sure as to what to make of this bit of text.
I started writing this as a stream of consciousness narrative.
Then somewhere into it, I decided to try and make it consistent… I think.

This was written at my desk at work.

I'm some guy that does stuff. Hoping to one day fill the internet with enough insane ramblings to impress a cannibal rat ship. I do more than I probably should. I liked the way you used the “Here we sit…” as a prelude in each of your paragraphs. I think you’ve put a lot of thought and “pondering” while writing this piece. Well done! 🙂
